Lead Production Roaster

About the Position

We are looking for someone to join our team in Coffee roasting/ production packaging for a small startup coffee roastery.  This is a great opportunity for someone interested in learning more about all facets of coffee. We have an internal coffee education program and look forward to hiring someone as excited about coffee as we are. The ideal candidate will have a passion for quality coffee, quality, and social responsibility.

Coffee roasting experience is required, but training on our machines is provided.

General Responsibilities:

  • Production of coffee roasting on large-scale Mill City roasters
  • Cupping coffee with the QC team
  • Manual Forklift operation
  • Packaging, shipping, product fulfillment, and allocation.
  • Works with team members to track inventory 
  • Works with team members to troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Operating weight and fill machines
  • Operating Heat Sealers
  • Unloading green coffee shipments
  • Following a daily production schedule that fluctuates seasonally
  • Daily, weekly, monthly cleaning tasks
  • Adherence to SQF food safety protocols
  • Ability to interact & train customers from retail to wholesale around coffee roasting, cupping, brewing styles, and tasting. 
  • Ability to switch between production days / supporting wholesale or retail customers on non-production days.


  • Learn / already know how to use software like Cropster, Shopify, Google / Microsoft products
  • Positive attitude and willingness to step up and help others.
  • Heavy lifting is a daily part of the roasting role, repetitive motions in a loud production facility.
  • Mechanical aptitude, high attention to detail.
  • Must pass a background check. Food safety training will be provided.
  • Support our roastery by opening the coffee lab, brewing coffee, interacting with customers, leading classes, and more.
  • This would be a split role between production roasting and retail interaction/classes.
  • Full Time: M-F with occasional overtime / Saturday work depending on season. 
  • Early morning start times.
