Our Approach

Respect the Journey. –That's our philosophy at Asunder Coffee Roasters. We believe that coffee is more than just a beverage - it's the result of an intricate and incredible journey from cultivation to roasting to brewing. Our commitment to high quality coffee means that every step of this journey is treated with care and respect.

    • Selecting

Working with our importer (Cafe Imports) allows us to sample and select coffees from around the world.

First, we look at the origin and the processing to determine the flavor profiles we can test.

Next, we sample by roasting and cupping the coffees on-site to determine which varieties we'd like to purchase and deliver to customers.

      • Roasting

Coffee roasting is the process of heating raw coffee beans to a specific temperature and time to transform them into the aromatic and flavorful beans we are familiar with.

During roasting, the beans undergo physical and chemical changes that affect their taste, aroma, and appearance.

The degree of roast can range from light to dark, each offering a unique flavor profile and characteristics.

    • Preparing

At Asunder, we experiment with the many ways to brew coffee, each offering a distinct taste and aroma.

Some popular methods include drip brewing, where hot water is poured over ground coffee beans in a filter; French press, where coarsely ground coffee is steeped in hot water and then pressed; and espresso, which involves forcing hot water through finely ground, compacted coffee using a machine.

Each preparation method, combined with the coffee selection and roast, brings out a unique tasting experience.

    • Experiencing

At our Coffee Lab, we guide guests through the coffee tasting process. The Coffee Lab is open Saturdays from 8am-2pm.

To taste different coffees, start by smelling the aroma of the brewed coffee to identify its notes and characteristics. Then, take a small sip and let it linger in your mouth to experience its flavor profile, body, and acidity.

Finally, evaluate the aftertaste and overall balance of the coffee, taking note of any unique qualities or nuances that make it stand out.
